Gerald Green is the Celtics’ latest reclamation project

Danny Ainge loves bargain shopping. I could picture him hanging out with my mother-in-law, cutting coupons, checking the clearance rack at Target, and shopping at three different grocery stores to get the best prices.

As the GM of the Celtics, Ainge’s bargain shopping manifests as looking for value in players where other GMs don’t see it. In recent years he’s had great success in finding diamonds in the rough. Jordan Crawford played his way into a Player of the Month award which later netted the Celtics a first-round pick. Evan Turner was running out of options until the Celtics took a chance on him and turned him into a $70-million free agent.
