Danny Ainge: 'Really tough' decision to waive Phil Pressey

LAS VEGAS — The Celtics announced today that they have waived backup point guard Phil Pressey, a move Danny Ainge said he did with deep regret.

"It's really tough for us to waive Phil," said the Celtics' director of basketball operations, reached shortly before the move was made. "He's won over the hearts of his coaches, management and teammates."

Circumstances mitigated the move, including an overload of point guards due to the selection of Terry Rozier in last month's draft. With Rozier, Isaiah Thomas and summer league star Marcus Smart all in line at point guard, Pressey's place simply was pushed too far to the margins.
