Celtics waive John Holland

The Boston Celtics waived swingman John Holland on Wednesday, trimming a nonguaranteed contract from a still-overstocked roster.

The 27-year-old Holland was signed out of the NBA Development League late in the 2015-16 season and actually made a postseason cameo during Boston's first-round playoff exit to the Atlanta Hawks.

Holland's salary was nonguaranteed, making him a long shot for a Celtics team that still has 18 players under contract, including 16 players with guaranteed deals. Boston will have to make a roster move before the start of the season in order to avoid eating salary while trimming to the 15-man regular-season maximum.
