WALTHAM — Brad Stevens was forced to relive a painful memory from his distant career as a high school baseball player yesterday, while discussing his five-minute address to the Red Sox earlier this week.
He was playing in the Indiana state tournament, and after turning an ankle the night before in a basketball game, he pinch-hit his way onto first base.
“I got picked off,” he said. “So I wasn’t qualified. The last play of my career.
“I told them like I am not qualified to speak to a baseball team,” added Stevens, who took his son Brady to spring training during the All-Star break.
