Brad Stevens drew on his days as a Butler assistant coach to explain how the Celtics could roll out of bed late and spot Washington the first 16 points yesterday at the Garden.
“I had an old boss at Butler, Todd Lickliter, (who) one time called a timeout when we were down 12-0,” Stevens said. “He said, ‘I don’t know if our plan of letting them score ’til they get tired is a good one.’ And that’s all I could think about, because I didn’t know if we’d ever score and I didn’t know if they’d ever stop scoring.
