LAS VEGAS -- Becky Hammon will make history Saturday, and she is certainly not unaware of the significance.
After being the league’s first full-time female assistant coach this past season for San Antonio, she will up the ante as the first female head coach of an NBA team in a summer league game. Cameras will follow her every move as she leads the Spurs against the Knicks Saturday afternoon.
Hammon would rather focus on the task at hand and be free from distraction, but she’s not bugged that this is a thing.
“No, I mean, as much as I just want to coach these guys and get my feet wet a little bit being on the sidelines, I don’t want to downplay it,” she said.
