“If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” is a phrase that usually has a clear cut meaning. It’s harder to decipher when it comes to NBA rosters. Only one team wins the NBA Championship every season. Does that mean teams that don’t win every year have roster issues? Furthermore by that logic, have the Boston Celtics had a flawed roster for the last 12 seasons since their last NBA Championship?
The NBA is a tricky beast in that way. Every franchise has a different set of goals for each season, and thus have different expectations. A rebuilding team may be happy with the #8 seed, while a team like the 2018-19 Boston Celtics weren’t happy with the #4 seed in the Eastern Conference.
