We Boston Celtic fans are well-acquainted with “Tommy Points” – a special commendation the old coach would confer upon a Celtic on occasions when his instincts and effort had perfectly aligned with opportunity, producing a “Johnny Most”-memorable, often game-defining moment.
But Mr. Heinsohn is not the only old-school player-turned-coach in whose honor an on-court accomplishment has been dubbed. A “Moe” point – named after hoops “Lifer” Doug Moe – is awarded to a squad for a road victory, while one such point gets deducted for every home defeat … Road Wins minus Home Losses, the most elementary of computations.
