In this Celtics rumors and news update, 2014 first-round pick James Young could have potential value off-the-court for Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge - with the possibility he could be used as a trade chip to land Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love.
Here's Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe with the scoop:
The Celtics are essentially out of salary cap space, but they do have a $10.2 million trade exception from the Paul Pierce deal they have to use by Saturday. They also have potentially talented rookie James Young to offer in a deal. While Young was ruled out of summer league with a neck injury, there was speculation the Celtics are keeping him on ice in case of a potential deal.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been adamant about their desire to keep Love for 2014-15, unless they can secure an absolute haul in return for the perennial All-Star.
With Washburn reporting that Danny Ainge is still pressing on in hopes of facilitating a trade regardless of this knowledge, Young could very well be fair game if the Wolves identify him as an integral part of their (hypothetical) trade demands.
