In today's look into Celtics rumors surrounding Thursday's NBA Draft, Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge indicated on Friday that the team would have selected injured Kansas center Joel Embiid if he would have fallen to them at #6.
Per Gary Dzen of Boston.com, Ainge was interviewed on the Toucher & Rich Show on Friday morning, and he revealed the Celtics' intentions had Embiid been available on the board.
"He was not red-flagged, meaning, “Stay away at all costs.” Ainge stated. "He was rated a little bit less than that with risk, but he was guy that we were looking at had he fallen."
When asked straight up if the team would have picked Embiid with the #6 pick, Ainge simply stated, "Yes, we would’ve."
Ainge declined to comment on who he would have picked had he possessed the #1 overall pick, or if the Boston Celtics are currently in the trade market for Kevin Love - citing Love's contract with the Wolves as a no-go for answering any questions.
