In a look into Celtics rumors and news on this first day of the 2014 NBA free agency period, the Boston Celtics have made their interest known to 30 of the 80-or-so free agents currently on the open market.
According to Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald, two very intriguing names are on the Celtics' wishlist going forward:
Celtics contacted approximately 30 players last night, according to source. Gordon Hayward and Chandler Parsons are on the list.

While the Utah Jazz have indicated that they will be willing to match any and all contract offers to Hayward during restricted free agency, Baxter Holmes of the Boston Globe is indicating that such a possibility isn't scaring Celtics management off the young and talented forward:
Have been told that both Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens have contacted Utah’s Gordon Hayward. #Celtics

Stevens' interest is pretty easy to understand - he coached Hayward during his star turn at Butler University:
Naturally, there is mutual interest. Stevens would of course love to coach Hayward again, and I’m told Hayward wouldn’t mind that either.

At this point, the Celtics would do well to also focus on Parsons and the other 28 free agents on their docket - especially if Utah holds true to their word and latches on to Hayward regardless of the price tag.
