The Boston Celtics have been blessed with a wealth of dynamic passers in their franchise's history, and current star point guard Rajon Rondo is no different.
Rondo passed Paul Pierce for 4th on the team's all-time assists list on Friday against the Cleveland Cavs, moving ahead of the beloved Pierce in 644 fewer games. Of course, Rondo is a point guard and Pierce is a small forward, but that doesn't take away from just how impressive the new Celtics captain's accomplishment really is.
After he stole the ball from Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love just over a minute into Friday's game, Rondo found an open Kelly Olynyk for a quick layupt. That was his first assist of Friday’s game and the 4,306th during his nine years in Boston.
Pierce, on the other hand, had 4,305 dimes in 1,102 games over a 15-year span with the Celtics.
Rondo now trails just Larry Bird (5,695 assists in 870 games), John Havlicek (6,114 in 1,270 games), and Bob Cousy (6,945 in 1,270 games) on the team's all-time list.
