The Boston Celtics won't have to worry about losing Rajon Rondo for an extended period of time with his recent surprise hand surgery.
Rondo's procedure was only expected to sideline him for Saturday's 106-101 win over the Chicago Bulls. Head coach Brad Stevens says that's still the case.
“It went well," Stevens said of Rondo's surgery, via A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com "It happened (Saturday) morning and from everything I’ve gathered it’s just a matter of letting the stitching heal and he’s back at practice Tuesday,” Stevens said. “So it’s a three-day thing.”
Stevens also added that Rondo's hand injury is healing according to plan and that there is no structural damage to speak of.
“It was just a matter of he had to take the screws out,” Stevens said. “Even I could see the screws in the X-ray, so that means … I saw them. They were really there.”
Rondo currently leads the NBA with 11.2 assists per game, so the Celtics will be quite elated to have him back as a facilitator come Wednesday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
