The Boston Celtics have made a minor roster move in preparation for a tough stretch that sees them play six games in the next nine days - the team announced Thursday that rookie G/F James Young, Boston's 17th pick in the 2014 draft, was being recalled from the Maine Red Claws.
Young has been assigned to the Red Claws seven times this season, with the Celtics using their D-League affiliate to keep him fresh and get him some valuable playing time. Young has featured in just five games for the Celtics this season, averaging 3.6 minutes per contest.
A Second-Team All-SEC selection at Kentucky in his freshman year, Young has been hampered by a shoulder injury this season and is yet to make a serious impact in an NBA game this year. He scored 25 points on 9-15 shooting with five rebounds, three assists and two steals in his lone performance for the Red Claws on this assignment. He's averaging 21.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals in 32.6 minutes in his seven games with the D-League squad this year.
Young has found it difficult to supplant Evan Miller in Boston's rotation this year, but with some changes to the rotation after the Rajon Rondo trade, this could be his chance to stake a claim for a bigger role.
