The Boston Herald cites a source indicating that Rivers is unlikely to head to Boston, despite Stein's report.
"The bottom line is that the Celtics don't need another guard," the source said.
Per the Herald's source, the Celtics could very well pick up a different piece in the deal, even if Rivers is shipped somewhere else in the trade agreement.
"This deal is a continuously changing thing," the source said. "More names could still be added to it before it's over."

The Memphis Grizzlies and Boston Celtics reportedly agreed to terms to a trade on Friday that will ship Jeff Green to Memphis in exchange for Tayshaun Prince and a 2019 first-round pick from the Grizzlies.
However, the deal was said to be waiting on a third team to join the fray, and it appears the New Orleans Pelicans have entered the mix and added another piece to Boston's haul.

To close out the deal, the Pelicans would acquire Quincy Pondexter from Memphis.
The 22-year-old Rivers is the son of former Celtics' head coach Doc Rivers. Picked 10th overall by the Grizzlies in the 2012 NBA Draft, the youngster has yet to find his stride. He's averaging just 6.8 points and 2.5 assists per game on 38.7 percent shooting from the field in 2014-15, and will be an unrestricted free agent at season's end.
