If the Bruins hadn’t missed the playoffs this year, they would have entered the postseason with a banged-up Zdeno Chara, if he’d been able to play at all.
The Bruins announced on Tuesday that the 38-year-old defenseman had suffered a non-displaced fracture of his left fibula. Slovakian news outlet Sport.sme first reported that Team Slovakia head coach Vladimir Vujtek said the injury will prevent Chara from taking part in the IIHF World Championships, which begin on May 1.
The Bruins said that the recovery time for the injury is expected to be four weeks and that Chara won’t require surgery.
