Per the Boston Globe’s Fluto Shinzawa, the Boston Bruins have assigned defenseman Matt Grzelcyk to the Providence Bruins.
While there hasn’t been any reasoning provided, it is likely that the move is a paper move to ensure Matt Grzelcyk can play in the AHL playoffs, if needed. Per the CBA, a player has to be on the AHL roster prior to 3PM on deadline day to be able to play in the AHL playoffs.
Matt Grzelcyk was likely assigned to Providence to be eligible for the AHL playoffs. He'll almost certainly be called back up before Tuesday.
