Svedberg’s exit has Bruins out to help Rask

Certainly there are more important items on the Bruins’ crowded to-do list this offseason, but one matter of significance was addressed partially with the news that No. 2 goaltender Niklas Svedberg will not be returning.

The 25-year-old Svedberg yesterday signed a one-year contract with Salavat Yulaev of the Russian KHL.

The Bruins’ new general manager — presumably Don Sweeney — now has to find a worthy backup for Tuukka Rask, or assemble a group of candidates to compete for the job. AHL netminders Malcolm Subban and Jeremy Smith could be the choice, unless the B’s look outside for a more proven guy with NHL experience.
