WILMINGTON — To say Danton Heinen was flying under the radar before the Bruins drafted him is a big understatement.
A native of Langley, British Columbia, Heinen never was taken in the Western Hockey League draft. And in an age when top NCAA prospects commit to colleges by the time they are freshmen in high school, Heinen wasn’t offered a scholarship to play at the University of Denver until he was 18 and in the midst of a strong season (29 goals, 32 assists) for the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL.
But in June 2014, the B’s decided to use a fourth-round pick (116th overall) on the slight 6-foot, 165-pound Heinen, and it could pay off in a big way.
