Based on a report by TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the Bruins have traded winger Reilly Smith to Florida for big winger Jimmy Hayes of Dorchester and Boston College. The 6-foot-6, 221-pound Hayes had 19-16--35 totals this year for the Florida Panthers. Smith had a disappointing year for the Bruins, with just 13 goals (and 27 assists) in 81 games. Hayes is an RFA, who earned just $925,000 this season.
The Bruins also opened up some cap room in the deal by trading the remaining two years of Marc Savard's cap hit — $4.027 million each — to the Panthers in the deal, according to LeBrun.
