Marc Savard fired up the TD Garden crowd on Friday with a few quick flicks of his wrists.
The former Boston Bruins center was a banner captain for Game 5 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Before the puck dropped, Savard grabbed the spoked ‘B’ flag and waved it furiously back and forth as the crowd roared.
The emotional occasion marked Savard’s first time in the Garden since 2011. His career was cut short by head injuries, including one caused by a vicious hit by Pittsburgh Penguins winger Matt Cooke. Savard played for the Bruins for five seasons, from 2006 to 2011, and tallied 74 goals and 231 assists in that span.
