In an interesting plot twist, Team Canada and Harvard University goalie Emerance Maschmeyer has registered for the CWHL Draft...Even though she was drafted by the Boston Pride in the second round of the NWHL Draft last summer.
Being drafted by the Pride was non-binding, however, and did not guarantee her a spot on their roster. The NWHL is currently in a period of restricted free agency, during which draftees can sign with the team that drafted them and current players can re-sign with their old team.
It makes sense, from a Team Canada standpoint, that Maschmeyer would prefer to play in her home country.
