Don Sweeney Wins GM of the Year

Don Sweeney, fresh off of building the Bruins team that went to its third Stanley Cup Final in nine years, has won the NHL’s General Manager of the Year award.

Sweeney beat out Doug Armstrong of the St. Louis Blues (take that!) and Don Waddell of the Carolina Hurricanes. Sweeney took over the GM role in May 2015 after the firing of Peter Chiarelli.

The Bruins came one game away from winning the Stanley Cup and finished tied for second in the league with 107 points in the regular season. Sweeney’s trade deadline acquisitions of Charlie Coyle and Marcus Johansson, who both performed admirably, surely helped boost Sweeney’s case for the award.
