A watershed moment for Providence came as Game 5 came to a close on Sunday night.
They had moved on to the second round of the Calder cup playoffs.
Now, this isn’t exactly new for them. Providence has been in and out of the playoffs for most of the 21st century.
What matters here is that they beat their longtime problem in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s Penguins, who have sent them packing in every year they’ve met since 2011. Especially in the AHL’s “best of 5” first round where expediting wins is key.
Except now. And it was a well earned, 100 mile an hour fight to the finish by both sides.
