The question wasn’t a matter of if the Bruins would sign Charlie McAvoy to a new deal, but rather a matter of when. Well, the two parties reportedly crossed that bridge on Sunday.
As first reported by TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the Bruins re-signed McAvoy on a three-year contract extension worth $4.9 million per season. The deal, as McKenzie tweeted, resembles Zach Werenski’s bridge deal after he re-signed with Columbus.
But yes, this feels like a win for both GM Don Sweeney and McAvoy’s camp. Sweeney now has $3.2 million in projected cap space to work with for Brandon Carlo’s new contract.
