Bruins notebook: Cross finally gets to live dream

DENVER — As a professional athlete, Tommy Cross never gave up on his dream to play in the NHL. But from the outside, it appeared the chances of the former Boston College star making it were not good, particularly after numerous knee surgeries and with younger players passing him on the organizational depth chart.

But Cross continued to plug along, impressing the Bruins’ brass with his character and perseverance. He was one of the last cuts in training camp and, when Joe Morrow was placed on injured reserve with the flu, Cross was the first call-up and was in the lineup last night making his NHL debut.
