A roomful of media sorts sat in front of an empty podium early yesterday afternoon at the Garden. There were two chairs, two microphones, two bottles of water — and one very big question about to be answered.
Who would walk into the pressroom and sit in those two chairs?
Would it be, as scheduled, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli and coach Claude Julien?
Or would it perhaps be Delaware North’s Boston Holdings CEO Charlie Jacobs and team president Cam Neely?
Had it been the latter twosome, it would have ignited a media bombshell — because Jacobs and Neely probably would have been there, not to talk about the season just ended, but the dismissal of Chiarelli and/or Julien.
