Mason Lohrei had a night to forget on Thursday against the Winnipeg Jets.
The offensive-minded defenseman is at his best when he has the puck on his stick, especially when activating off the blue line.
But the 24-year-old’s skater’s unique skillset — coupled with a switch to defense in the midst of his high-school career — means that the Bruins defenseman is still prone to miscues in Boston’s own end of the ice.
Thursday’s matchup against the Jets marked an unfortunate low point for the second-year pro. While trying to cut in front of Joonas Korpisalo and Boston’s net with the puck on his stick, he gave Nikolaj Ehlers a prime opportunity to poke the puck loose — allowing the skittering biscuit to slip past the goal line to give Winnipeg a 4-2 lead.
