Former Boise State safety Chanceller James, an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers, is making a name for himself in training camp, but an incident Tuesday nearly jeopardized his health.
James and fellow rookie Donavin Newsom, a linebacker, collided going for an interception. James slowly rose to his feet, but Newsom removed motionless. Practice was stopped as Newsom was taken off the field in an ambulance, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan said afterward that Newsom was taken to the hospital, but was conscious, moving his extremities, as he was taken away.
