His baseball career behind him, ex-Boise State linebacker heads to College of Idaho

Joey Martarano is going football one more try, and he will be playing close to home.

The Fruitland High graduate and former Boise State linebacker confirmed via text message Tuesday he intends to join the College of Idaho football team this fall.

Though he said course work needs to be in order before he can officially enroll, Martarano plans on playing linebacker for the Yotes in 2018 as a senior.

Martarano had 120 tackles in three seasons with the Broncos. He played minor league baseball in the Chicago Cubs' system in the summers of 2014 and 2015, did not play the sport in 2016, but left Boise State in March 2017 to pursue baseball.
