After bogeying four holes, and making birdies on two more, Merritt ended the first round with a 74 which had him tied for 43rd. With a decent second round, a one under par 71 that saw only one bogey and two birdies, he has now positioned himself to make the cut and continue on into the weekend (currently tied for 15th).
The former Bronco, and 2008 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, had ended his senior campaign for Boise State by winning five-straight tournaments that included the WAC championships.
In 2015, Merritt won the Quicken Loans National.
