Toughness is a family trait for Michigan State's Allen brothers

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Some call it a mean streak. Some call it impatience or a serious side or a skosh of perfectionism. By any name, the motor that drives Michigan State center Jack Allen has been firing on all cylinders as far back as anyone can remember.

The Spartans coaches say Allen has been a tireless worker since he showed up on campus five years ago. Brian Allen, Jack’s younger brother and Michigan State’s sophomore starting left guard, recalls the relentless nature of their fights growing up. The boys’ uncle says that attitude goes back to the earliest and simplest things Allen tried to learn.
