Michael Geiger’s 41-yard field goal on a cold, rainy night in Columbus was only the beginning of an instant classic moment for Michigan State and its fans.
While the ball was on its way through the uprights, the junior placekicker from Toledo, Ohio, was in a full sprint toward the opposite end zone. He later joked that he didn’t want to end up on the bottom of a pile like the Spartans’ other late game hero this season, Jalen Watts-Jackson. During his run, Geiger broke out an air guitar/windmill arm swing powered by adrenaline and joy.
