Maryland coach DJ Durkin helped orchestrate a stellar turnaround in his first season with the program in 2016. The Terrapins won their first four, finished 6-7 and played in the Quick Lane Bowl. Not bad for a program that went 3-9 one year earlier and desperately needed some new direction from the top.
The Terrapins took advantage of their weaker Big Ten opponents by defeating Purdue, Michigan State and Rutgers -- teams that combined to finish 2-25 in league play. Though Maryland made strides, there is still a long way to go for the Terps to compete in the brutal Big Ten East.
