Penn State RB Saquon Barkley belongs in Heisman talk

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State running back Saquon Barkley bristled at the notion of being involved in the Heisman conversation, telling reporters after Saturday’s performance that the thought hasn’t crossed his mind.

“Not even paying attention to that,” said the soft-spoken Barkley, who had 167 rushing yards and 44 receiving yards as the Nittany Lions pummeled Iowa, 41-14. “That’s like with the rankings, you can’t control that. All I can control is myself and control what I can do for my team.”

Barkley – who once voluntarily gave up a gold track medal in high school – has often reiterated that he’s not interested in big stats or small statues.
