Jay Johnson is Minnesota's new offensive coordinator, but he's hardly new to Minnesota.
Johnson grew up in the southern Twin Cities suburb of Lakeville and followed the Golden Gophers as a kid. He remembers going to games at the old Memorial Stadium and the Metrodome, and though his career path took him to different parts of the country, he said he "always kept an eye on the Gophers."
So while Johnson is charged with improving Minnesota's offensive output, he knows exactly what the roots of the program are.
"We need to run the football," he told ESPN.
