Providence’s Marcelo Rocha Named BIG EAST Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

NEW YORK – Providence senior runner Marcelo Rocha was named the BIG EAST Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league announced on Wednesday. Rocha will receive a $4,000 scholarship, which may be applied to graduate or professional studies. The selection was made by the Conference’s Academic Affairs Committee and was announced by the Conference on Wednesday.

Rocha is the second overall scholar-athlete from Providence, joining former Friar baseball player Angelo Ciminiello in 1999. Rocha is the tenth member of a track & field squad to earn the prestigious honor.

The Conference also announced the male winners of the 2020-21 BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Scholarships.
