The Gavitt Tipoff Games concluded Friday with St. John’s taking an 84-65 decision at Rutgers. Mustapha Heron scored a game-high 27 points and L.J. Figueroa added 23 points and 11 rebounds. The Johnnies (3-0) tied a school record with 16 3-pointers made. Figueroa was 6-of-9 from beyond the arc and Heron was 4-of-5.
After falling behind 66-61, Butler used an 11-2 run to defeat Mississippi 83-76 in Hinkle Fieldhouse. Paul Jorgensen put up a career-high 27 points and Kamar Baldwin added 23 points, a team-high eight rebounds and five assists. The Bulldogs (3-0) made all 18 of their free throws in the second half.
