In a pair of BIG EAST battles on Tuesday, Georgetown handed Xavier its first loss at home this season and Providence used a banked-in 3-pointer by Kris Dunn to clip Butler.
At the Cintas Center, Georgetown got 41 points from the starting backcourt of Tre Campbell and D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera to beat the Musketeers 81-72. Xavier had risen to fifth in the Associated Press poll this week. Campbell scored 17 of his career-high 21 points in the first half and Smith-Rivera tallied 15 of his 20 points in the second half.
Trevon Bluiett led Xavier in points and rebounds with 18 and 10, respectively.
