Creighton’s customary strong perimeter game and the Bluejays’ clutch free throw shooting, which had not been a strength this season, was too much for Providence in the New Year’s Eve matchup at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. The visiting Bluejays won 79-68 in the conference opener for both teams that left both squads with 10-4 overall records.
Creighton made nine 3-pointers in the second half to hold off the Friars. Guards Ty-Shon Alexander and Mitch Ballock led the offense with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Ballock made 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Martin Krampelj helped in the frontcourt with 16 points and nine rebounds.
