Playing its first game after being voted No. 1 in the polls on Monday, Villanova knocked off La Salle 89-79 at The Palestra. Jalen Brunson scored a season-high 26 points and Josh Hart added 21 points and eight rebounds. The win was Villanova’s 17th straight against Philadelphia Big 5 opponents.
Marquette built a 22-point lead in the first half against Fresno State, but had to subdue a late rally before winning 84-81. Freshman Sam Hauser led five Golden Eagles in double figures with 19 points.
