CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. – Marquette overcame a 17-stroke deficit in the final round to capture the 2017 BIG EAST Men’s Golf Championship Presented by Jeep on a sunny and windy day at the Callawassie Golf Club. The Golden Eagles edged runner-up Seton Hall by one stroke and third-place Georgetown by two strokes.
As the BIG EAST champion, Marquette earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Individually, Marquette freshman Matt Bachmann took first place with an even-par score of 216 (73-71-72) for the 54-hole event. The men’s golf crown was Marquette’s second in three years.
Marquette posted a team score of 286 in the final round, easily the best round in the tournament for the Golden Eagles, who shot 304 in the first round and 309 in the second round.
