NEW YORK – BIG EAST baseball league play got underway this weekend despite potential unseasonably cold and snowy weather conditions. By the end of the weekend, St. John’s emerged at the top of the standings after sweeping Villanova on the road. Georgetown is currently in second as the Hoyas took two from Xavier.
Creighton and Butler split their two-game series, which they played at a neutral site in Edwardsville, Illinois.
St. John’s and Villanova played single games Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Red Storm took Friday’s game 6-1 and Saturday’s, 8-2. The Red Storm finished the sweep with a 6-3 victory.
