After losing Joey Brunk to Indiana and Nate Fowler to graduation, the Butler Bulldogs recovered some of their height on Sunday when Valparaiso transfer Derrik Smits announced he was returning home to Indianapolis to play for the Bulldogs.
Smits averaged 12.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for Valpo last season. He is the son of former Indiana Pacer Rik Smits and played high school basketball in nearby Zionsville.
North Carolina State and Arizona State were also both interested in Smits, who will be immediately eligible for the 2019-20 season.
