On Tuesday, St. John’s defeated Butler and Marquette beat Providence. The results of the games, left the teams in each contest with identical league records.
St. John’s and Butler are both 2-5 in BIG EAST play after the Johnnies took a 69-57 decision at Carnesecca Arena. Julian Champagnie scored a game-high 18 points for St. John’s. The Johnnies shot 57.7 percent from the field in the first half, while building a 41-31 lead by halftime, then held off a Bulldog rally. Champagnie leads the BIG EAST in scoring with a 20.7 average. Jair Bolden hit five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points for the Bulldogs.
