The Providence Friars missed out on landing four-star point guard Makai Ashton-Langford, as the Massachusetts native will instead head to the University of Connecticut to play for head coach Kevin Ollie and the Huskies.
The battle for Ashton-Langford’s services came down to the Friars and the Huskies after strong efforts by other schools. The 2017 guard took visits recently to both schools and while rumors suggested he might commit this weekend, Ashton-Langford wound up waiting until Labor Day to announce the news.
The announcement of Makai’s commitment was initially revealed by ESPN.com’s Adam Finkelstein.
Ashton-Langford is UConn’s first commit of the 2017 class.
