When Texas Tech assistants Eric Morris and Mike Jinks were making the rounds in Fort Bend County near Houston in May 2014, they kept receiving the same tip: Go check out Jonathan Giles.
Four or five coaches in a row told them Giles was the best football player in the district, a terrific athlete playing quarterback who didn’t have many offers. When Morris and Jinks stopped by Fort Bend Elkins High that week, they asked the coaches to let Giles try receiver during a spring practice. Within 10 minutes, the kid won them over.
"He was a natural," Morris said.
