Sooners return to recruiting among elite

NORMAN, Okla. -- While reeling in the likes of blue-chip future all-pros Adrian Peterson and Gerald McCoy, no program was recruiting at a higher level a decade ago than the Sooners.

But as the college football landscape shifted, so too did Oklahoma's recruiting. Texas A&M's departure allowed the SEC to pick off Texas players that previously had been earmarked for the Sooners and Longhorns. And as Oklahoma's play on the field gradually dipped, so too did its recruiting.

But last week, Oklahoma re-emerged with a sterling vintage class, producing its best recruiting ranking since the turn of the decade.
