Physical, intimidating style fuels rise for West Virginia, bodes well in Big 12

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Inside the celebratory locker room Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium after West Virginia delivered a statement with its 31-point win against Texas Tech, defensive coordinator Tony Gibson went in search of Shelton Gibson.

One the eve of the game, the junior receiver was quoted as saying he believed the Mountaineers could hold Tech, the highest-scoring offense nationally, to 10 points. And do it in Lubbock, at that, where the Red Raiders had scored more than 50 points in nine consecutive games, an NCAA record.

His comments caught the attention of the home team.
