West Virginia's 3-3-5 defense provides plenty of playing options for safeties, but the Mountaineer coaching staff is looking at even more ways to get one of their deepest position groups involved in the game.
West Virginia's players at the spur, bandit and free safety positions are integral parts of the Mountaineer defense. Playing multiple roles (the spur and bandit serving as hybrid linebackerstrong safeties defending both the run and the pass), the trio of athletes at the position must be strong in all areas of the defense. In 2015, those abilities will be tested even further, as starters and backups will move freely among each of the three positions, and man additional spot in WVU's pass defense packages.
